"We are not European because we trade together, we are European because we share so many values" - Spanish international trade lawyer Miriam González Durántez re-imagines the European Union in her Hay Festival reformation.
Here she argues that instead of plotting the EU's collapse, we should be objectively looking at what needs to be changed in a great, but not perfect, institution.
Her lecture at Hay Festival 2017 was part of our 30 Reformations series. Our 30th anniversary coincided with the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther nailing his Theses to the door at Wittenberg. So we invited international thinkers at our festivals around the world to propose their reformations of institutions and authorities, re-imagining the world.
